Eight Asian countries will take part in the AVC Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup Tournament which would take place from September 15 to 22 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.  This inaugural event would be conducted by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) and sponsored by Dialog.  The teams participating in the tournament are Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia (Group ‘A’) and Iraq, UAE, Mongolia and Bangladesh (Group ‘B’).  President Maithripala Sirisena will be the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony of the tournament while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony.  The official launching ceremony for the event took place on Wednesday (15) at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo under the patronage of Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha and Amali Nanayakkara, Group Chief Marketing Officer, Dialog.  Minister Musthapha s...

Report Ad Earvin Ngapeth   has just told Paris’ L’Equipe newspaper  that he will be leaving Italy’s  Modena  for Russia’s  Zenit Kazan  next season. Here is his official statement: “I made the decision to leave and go to Kazan. This was for two simple reasons: the first is that I feel I have finished my cycle in  Modena . After the announcement came that  Earvin Ngapeth  was transferring from his current club of Azimut Modena to  Zenit Kazan , suspicions were raised about  Wilfredo Leon ‘s future with the club. Fellow VolleyMob writer Renan Correia  correctly called Leon’s decision not to renew his contract  in his article about the Ngapeth move yesterday, as there was simply no room for him on the Kazan roster. Leon’s choice of destination will greatly impact the layout of club volleyball for the next several years. He is considered the best male volleyball player in the world, and any club that has him on their roster will instantly become a contender for any type of international competition.
